Welcome to Zip Dip, a west side family tradition. Zip Dip is part of the Westchester subdivision developed in the 1940’s. My wife and I are the fourth owners; the original proprietor purchased the property on September 16, 1947. Zip Dip opened in 1950. A gentlemen who lived across Drew Avenue named Charlie Metzger built Zip Dip and leased the business to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas McMahan.
Zip Dip with its old-fashion charm delights in satisfying our customer’s insatiable taste buds with premium, soft serve ice cream. The original 1950s era neon sign, a lightning bolt across an ice cream cone still perches proudly on the roof today. It is a common sight to have three sometimes four generations of one family at the window simultaneously. We take pride in keeping tradition. Because it’s novel design Zip Dip has appeared in numerous pictorial publications of Cincinnati and surrounding areas. Zip Dip has appeared in Sports Illustrated (the Pete Rose Jr. story), and the Cincinnati Enquirer (top five creamywhips in the city). Zip Dip also had a shot at Hollywood; a video of the building was sent to California for a possible commercial shoot.
As proprietors we find it extremely satisfying the number compliments we receive. For example: “Your place is always so clean”. Any one passing by in the morning knows the parking lot is pressure cleaned every day. “Your ice-cream taste so good”. It’s the clean machines (that clean thing again) and fresh mix. Three day a week deliveries so the mix is never more than 36 hours old. “The staff is always so pleasant and professional looking”. A smile and good looking uniforms go along way. Not to mention fantastic personnel behind those smiles.
One of the greatest traditions at Zip Dip is the little leaguers, win or lose when the coach treats the players to a soft serve cone everyone is happy. As a bonus the coach who picks up the tab sometimes goes home with Zip Dip logo golf balls.

In closing I would like to thank the entire Zip Dip family, past and present. On January 23, 2009 we lost our beloved Barbara Jo. Bobbie was the matriarch of the family who worked 22 seasons for my wife and I. She will be dearly missed by everyone. On average, Zip Dip employees spend five seasons serving your favorite delights.
Thank you and enjoy one of life’s simple pleasures – ZIP DIP.
